Palm Sunday

BROTHERHOOD OF DULCE NOMBRE DE JESÚS , TRIUNFAL ENTRADA DE JESÚS EN JERUSALÉN Y NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LOS DESAMPARADOS

This brotherhood was founded the 7^th March, 1582 led by the Order of Preachers that only worshipped to the image of Dulce Nombre.  At the end of the 19^th century,  the brotherhood  bought a carving of a Virgin Dolorosa called Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados,  that makes its penitential procession each Palm Sunday.  In 1960 a carving of Jesús riding on a donkey was ordered with the purpose of representing the triumphal entry of Jesús into Jerusalén.

At present, this brotherhood is comprised of three processions, which leave the church of Santo Domingo such as “Niño perdido” of unknown author and belonging to 15^th century, the Triumphal Entry of Jesús into Jerusalén, commonly known as “La Borriquita” whose traditional olive tree was replaced by a palm, this procession belongs to the second half of the 20^th century and made by the Art´s workshop of Olot and the third one is the  “Virgen de los Desamparados” from 19^th century and attributed to Juan de Astorga.

We need to highlight that the traditional olive tree was replaced by a palm tree in the procession of the "Entrada Triunfal en Jerusalén"
